NYE with the OG in King Apparel and INDCSN

2011 has been pretty good to the Organ Grinder, not only did we put out his first solo 12 inch Obsession/New Age People, which sold out globally (weve got about 5 left), hes gets recognition from internationally profiled Djs such as Steffi playing his record at the most recent warehouse project in Manchester and including the 12 in her best of 2011 chart for Clone. We understand hes out in fine style this evening; here he is with his halls decks out with a snug King Apparel jersey sweater and an INDCSN 'Kill Yourself' Knitted beanie keeping the wind from his ears.  He's hitting the Trade Street Warehouse event tonight and tells us he's "looking forward to getting plucked". Theres no feathers on this Turkey. Happy New Year Y'all.

Ready For the Weekend

Catapult Cardiffs Andrew 'Maxx Roach' Hill is ready for the weekend. He’s wearing a Burgundy Diamond Supply Co.Beanie to keep the cold from his ears and a stunning light coloured high grade demin shirt by Grind London (buttoned up) for a touch of class. Good practical look, it’s cold out there but you’ve got to keep up appearance.

The Organ Grinder - Catapult 002

What started as a one off for record shop day has turned into a living breathing record label as Catapult002 reaches record shops across Europe. The idea of introducing a store record label has been a blessing as we’ve been introduced to some seriously creative people in Cardiff with hard drives full of some of the finest music we’ve heard; it’s been a real treat for our ears. Our second release comes from the no longer mysterious Organ Grinder AKA Chico. If you’re local you’ll no doubt know this man as a fine MC and host and as one half of Didz and Chico who dropped the wonderful Something New on Ten Thousand Yen last year. I can’t say how excited we are to be putting out the first solo release for a producer who is no doubt going to climb to high heights. Every Dj we’ve passed this track to has given it a five star rating – including Jackmaster, Donga and Hackman.

Obsession and New Age People are two classy modern garage hits that have a back in the day vintage feel, think Tuff Jam's garage classic "Experience", think US Garage at its peak, think iceberg chinos and mochino shirts, think everyone having a good time in clubs. Both tracks are swingers aimed directly at the dance floor full of soulful vocal snippets, catchy melodies, shuffling rhythm patterns, warm vintage keys and plenty of deep bass. This really is an incredible record, all we can say is wait till you see what else is to come from The Organ Grinder.

More late news and Photos

Last month we hosted our first U stream in the Catapult basement, great night; Koreless was an absolute star. We had a few guests along in the basement and 170 tuning in online. few snaps here from the night, not the best as they were taken on my iphone. Koreless during the U Stream and Maxx Roach and Lung pulling silly faces. Maxx Roach has the look of Vic Reeves doing his club singer bit. Which is another reason to get yourselves a copy of Lung and Maxx Roach's Booty Call 12 inch forcoming on Deadly Plate Records.

Kutmah/Darkhouse Family

Its a little over due but wanted to post this photo of Kutmah and Darkhouse Family in the Catapult Record basement from last month. Mainly getting a whole host of new clothing labels into the store and getting things ready for our second release, more on that very soon.

Koreless U Stream 09/06/2011 8PM for Catapult Bassment Sessions

We are very excited about this evening, it’s the first time we will be attempting a live broadcast from the catapult record basement. You’ve got the chance to sit back in the comfort of your own home and watch one of our favorite news kids on the block Koreless perform an exclusive live set.

If you’ve heard the recent release on Pictures music by Koreless 4D/ MTI, you’ll know exactly why we’re getting so excited. We are real suckers for his bouncing subs and swinging percussion. For those of you who are yet to taste the Koreless flavor you’re in for a real treat – he is a must check for all fans of Mount Kimbie and Jamie XX.

Listen Watch Kutmah

We are really pleased to welcome Kutmah to Cardiff on the 11th of June to help launch Catapult Records. I know our first release has been on the shelves for a month now and quite honestly we dont have that many copies left. We'd have arranged this closer to the release date but the Darkhouse Family boys were busy over in California gate crashing Stones Throw parties and getting lost in Palm Springs.

Check out the details of this event on the facebook event page, but just to top line it for you, the finest Djs and producers in the whole city of Cardiff will be supporting Kutmah and even sweeter news is the whole thing is free - which is our favourite price.

Catapult Instores

We've had a really good month of in-store Dj sets at Catapult, with appearances on Record Store day from Hospital Records Nutone and Logistics or Nu:Logic as they're known and the following week from long serving Ninja Tune artist Bonobo. Goes without saying that all three were top class guys and all played stunning sets in the record basement. More to come watch this space...

CRST Redeye

CRST Redeye by Catapult Records

Test Press

The test press' arrived into catapult today, cant explain what a buzz it was. Mainly having listen the these tracks from CRST and the Darkhouse family countless times as sound files on a computer, to finally hear them pressed up as god intended cant be explained. The mastering by the guys at Curved press is second to none, when the first kick drum lands hits on Stabwound and redeye - Wow!

Had to update on facebook as soon as they arrived and got a response from Tony from CRST that he was heading in pronto to check it out on the shop system. Tony agreed - sounds brilliant. Im not sure that a producer gets the same kick from an MP3 launching as they do from seeing their labour on a piece of vinyl. From my point of view it's brilliant to be selling a record made by a long serving customer who's been at the counter of Catapult ever since he was barely tall enough to look over the top. What a legend, he still gets kicks out of vinyl.

Looking forward to the next one... watch this space.

Didz let me know to look out for a twelve he's really happy with called Hot Gal, been a long time coming but its finally here. No need to tell you how good this record is.

As luck may have it the box arrived in the precence of Didz production partner and Cardiff's very own Hot Gal Chico! hence the photo.

Man o Man-zine

Just confirmed with editor of Manzine Kevin Braddock that we'll be a stockist from the next issue, this is likely to be a very early announcement as the next issue will not be out for at least two months. However, we will be getting our hands on a handful of the current issue, which, we understand is almost sold out. If thats the case we may hoard a few copies hoping that one day they'll be worth a few quid on ebay.

If you've not read the magazine yet, think of it as the print version of a vinyl, it will appeal to (dare we say it) older heads who are happy to call it a night after 3 pints on the weekend. We include ourselves in this demographic, but whats the point in being out on a saturday night when Garry Lineker is on? We may need to rethink this one.

Anyway we're planning on getting in touch with a few more editors over the next few weeks to try and get a few more magazines into Catapult. Any suggestions drop us an email.

Stab Wound- Darkhouse Family

Stab Wound- Darkhouse Family by Catapult Records

Daedelus in the Basement

Daedelus was in town on Friday night at CAI for what is rumoured to be the best night we've had in the city for a long time (citation needed!). Dj support from Darkhouse Family and Mr Healan, means Cardiff was represented by some of the cities finest. Anyhow Daedelus (Alfred) called by to say Hi on Friday afternoon and luckily his remix for Quantic on Tru Thoughts had arrived in store, it was a privilege to check it out with the man to give me some of the back story around the remix, he gives a lot of credit to Computer Jay. Alfred took time to check out some of the UK names he's been hearing a lot about, mainly South Wales finest CRST - which he described as "very UK", he did pick up a few old skool classics on CD Nice guy, Nice remix, Nice afternoon.
